Bigger Life

I was thrilled to finally succeed in watching a movie in the theater without eating any popcorn. The smells were a bit taunting at first. But, I made a decision before I arrived and I stuck to it. What was most disappointing was the preview for Kirstie Alley's new reality show, "Big Life". She is getting paid to showcase her continuing failure to lose weight and keep it off. I believe in not giving up, however, this is not inspiring. Being a celebrity seems to place one on a pedastal as a role model. If at first you have made a point to show the world your weight loss while also making money, maybe the next go round, you would be better off writing a book.
Life is bigger than reality tv.

Facing Dragons

I believe in dragons. Every day I have these fierce creatures that confront and flex their flames of fire. Somehow, I have allowed them to consume me. Wait! Let's take a closer look at them. Stop and see what they really are. Today, I have realized that one of them is popcorn. Yep, little kernels that are so light, you could blow them away. These dragons like to "pop up" at home and especially at theaters. Sad to say, I have come to equate good entertainment with the buttery smell and taste of popcorn. Now that I think about it, it's gone before the first hour of the movie. Then what? I simply enjoy the movie. I don't want to admit that perhaps I might be stronger than this dragon. But, if at first that dragon screams at you, take control and use those flames to fuel your battle. Who knows, you might actually enjoy something without food.

Not what the Dr. Ordered

I Love Dr. Pepper! I am addicted to it. And I drink the diet, so it must be good for me. Well, maybe if you drink an occasional soda. How much do I drink? I drink as much as a beer guzzling alcoholic. That's not an exaggeration either. People who know me always see me with my DP bottle. Funny, but no doctor has ever come right out and verbally said that drinking soda is bad for me (although I have read enough about it)
I finally took control of this dragon!!Today makes the two week mark that I've gone without any diet soda! I am so encouraged to have made it this far. There have been a few times in my life I have been able to quite cold turkey. This time, I have gone farther and longer. I won't give in.
If, you have tried a challenge before, don't give up.

Race with an angel

I ran my first (ok, ran-walk) 5K on October 13, 2007. This was my first experience with the world of runners. By all accounts, I felt awkard, but I started the race with all 150 eager angels. I even finished (despite tripping on roots). This happy race was decorated with unsuspecting tree roots, uneven terrain and all of the things first time runners like myself, made me question why I was doing this. My time was nothing to brag about but I felt like a winner when I crossed the finish line.Today, I am in desparate need of refocusing, getting up to the starting line and making healthier choices to help me feel stronger and more energetic. So, my first post is a challenge to get back up. If at first you start and fall, get up and get going again!!
